The Station

Where is the Private AWS located?
The Weather Station is located in South Worcester which is some 10 miles NE of Great Malvern and the Malvern Hills and about 20 miles south of Birmingham.

What equipment do we use?
The station consists of a Davis VP2 wireless (pictured above) , which measures Rainfall, Wind Speed & Direction and Temperature & Humidity. Also in use are some 1 wire sensors which include Temperature, Solar Radiation, Wind Speed/Dir , Rainfall. As well as these digital sensors there are also a few traditional instruments used to keep a good accuracy. Then for the Lightning detection system we use a Boltek Stormtracker.

Why was it set up?
The station was set up purely from personal interest, it started with a Lacrosse WS2500 weather station (which was amazingly unreliable) in December 2005, then in December 2006 the Davis system was put into place as it is far more reliable, and has proved very good value for money.

How does it work?

The various sensors transmit the data back wirelessly (from the Davis system) and through a cable for the 1 wire system. This all leads back to a main computer which collects data from them all including the Lightning detector and stores all teh data in csv form. From here 3rd party software takes the needed data from this and posts it onto the site every 4 seconds.

Want to know more ?
If you would like more information or help on setting your own system up feel free to email, i get quite a few people asking about various equipment and i always answer any emails.
